Bringing Back Recess

We can learn a lot about ourselves from kids. In the pursuit of “ productivity,” recess and play were eliminated or dramatically reduced from schools around the country over the past few decades with detrimental results. That trend is slowly reversing itself thanks to innovative educators and schools who are showing significant improvements in a variety of areas.

A high-quality recess program can help students feel more engaged, safer, and positive about the school day, according to Stanford research.

“Positive school climate has been linked to a host of favorable student outcomes, from attendance to achievement,” the study noted.

Thankfully, the same trend is happening in the workplace. The highest performing companies, in any vertical market, embrace a culture of fun and play. Take some advice from our kids and lighten up at work. Your employees, customers, and bottom line will be glad you did!
