Fun as an Employee Benefit?

Just imagine a world where companies allow new employees the opportunity to select “fun” as part of their benefit plan.  How cool would that be?!

That was the vision I had 15 years ago when I was drafting the business plan for The Fun Dept. Back then, there was little data to support fun as a benefit much less a company value! Today there is a wealth of data supporting fun and happiness as key drivers in everything from engagement scores, customer service, wellness, and profitability.  We also now see “fun” standing on its own among the popular company values and it’s rank is getting higher every year!

I was recently reminded of the vision I had 15 years ago at a recent event with a long standing customer, W.L. Gore.  Their co-founders visionary motto is quite simple, yet extremely powerful: “Make money and have fun along the way.” ~Bill Gore. That philosophy has endured over time and their company is consistently ranked as one of the best places to work in the country!

In recent discussions with other clients and corporate benefits providers, there is an overwhelming interest  in fun as an employee benefit.  Stay tuned, friends, in the upcoming months.  We are determined to make this a reality!
