At fun dept. our mission is to create innovative solutions for a happier, healthier & more connected workplace…and we love what we do! It’s always exciting when we find others involved in the happiness movement too. Especially when they have a job title like Happiness Researcher at UC Berkeley!
If you’re looking for more happiness and satisfaction at work, you don’t need to run out and quit your job or ignore your co-workers. According to Dr. Emiliana Simon-Thomas, who teaches a popular edX course called “The Science of Happiness,” we can all be happier at work if we follow some simple steps.
Here are her suggestions for feeling happier at work – no matter what!
Be mindful and aware of your ‘wins’ at work. Even if your boss or co-worker doesn’t celebrate them, YOU can. It is A-okay to give yourself a pat on the back when you deserve it. In fact, we recommend it!
If your company or department has a clear mission – props to you! If not, you can develop your own around your personal work ethic. Having a sense of purpose is tied to motivation and motivation is tied to results.
Resilience is staying positive in a negative situation. It’s owning your mistakes and deciding to do better next time. It’s staying focused instead of becoming overwhelmed, choosing to see the big picture rather than being stuck in the situation.
Kindness means showing grace to others. It means offering the benefit of the doubt and allowing the most positive explanation for another’s actions. And kindness to yourself matters too!
Now, what are you going to do TODAY to be happier at work? We want to know!
